Hooked on “Invincible”

I have a confession to make. I have been reading non-DC comics. Yes, yes I know it is hard to believe.

I just can’t help it, I was hooked pretty much from page 1. That is right, like a lot of others, I am completely hooked on Invincible from Image Comics.

Invincible #1

Looking for something new to read, I picked up an the first Invincible trade just on a whim, and because I had heard good things about the title and the writer. I figured that if I didn’t like it, I could always sell it on Ebay or something.

I had no idea what I was getting into. I was completely hooked almost instantly. Robert Kirkman is a genius on this book. He expertly captures the superhero genre in a way the reminds me of the comics I used to read when I was a kid, but he is still fresh enough to make it different from everything else. There is just enough quirky humor to make the book fun, but at the same time it is just serious enough to keep you on your toes. There is plenty of action, but maybe a little too much gore (in some of the later issues) for the little ones. I would consider it PG-13 at the least.

You don’t have to take my word for it though, you can take a look at the entire first issue on the Image Comics Online Comics section.

I will wait while you read it.

No go on, I am serious, read it and you won’t be disappointed.

Back? So what did you think? Yeah it is awesome isn’t it. :)

OK, now that you are hooked like me; you are probably wondering “how can I get more of this book”??

Well don’t worry, in pure shameless capitalist fashion, I have you covered. Here are some links for the trades. I just finished Vol. 5, which gets you up to issue 24. 25 on up you can probably still find in your local comic shop, or you can just wait until Vol. 6 comes out in January.
