Newsarama – DC PREVIEWS FOR AUGUST 2006
I am not sure about the Shazam comic, never been a big fan of that character. However, Winick is one of the best writers out there right now, so I might give it a chance.
Matt Wagner’s Batman and the Monster Men was truly excellent and I highly recommend it, so I am eagerly awaiting “Batman and the Mad Monk” to come out.? Sign yourself up to get this if you get a chance!

Halliburton, Bechtel could be factors in border security plan – Top Stories – MSNBC.com

Halliburton, Bechtel could be factors in border security plan
By Mike SunnucksThe Business Journal of PhoenixUpdated: 7:00 p.m. ET May 21, 2006Two big and controversial corporate names — Halliburton and Bechtel — could benefit from mammoth increases in federal spending on border security.Federal and state efforts to bolster porous border security include plans for increased security infrastructure, expanded use of technology, including radar. Other plans include construction of more prison beds, and additional law enforcement operations, security roads and improved employment verification systems and ports of entry.
That will mean billions of dollars in border-related contract opportunities for defense, technology and other government contractors. A substantial number of border security contracts are expected to go to major contractors — including big infrastructure, construction and contract management experts such as Halliburton Co. and Bechtel Corp.
“It’s the big boys that will benefit from this,” said Congressman Ed Pastor, a Phoenix Democrat. “Most of the big contracts are going to go out to the Halliburtons and Bechtels.”
Those two companies are well-known for being politically connected and have received top infrastructure, energy and construction management contracts in Iraq. They also have critics who worry about their political ties to the Bush administration and Washington, D.C., power brokers.
Houston-based Halliburton formerly was headed by Vice President *** Cheney, and its subsidiary KBR (Kellogg Brown & Root) constructed the post-9/11 terrorist jail cells at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. KBR already won one contract to build more prison facilities to help with border enforcement.
Those two companies specialize in large infrastructure and construction-related contracts. Various border security plans call for construction of security fences and walls, new roads and equipment for the resource-challenged U.S. Border Patrol, technology surveillance applications and more law enforcement offices, checkpoints and jail cells to house illegal migrants caught crossing the border as well as drug traffickers and other smugglers.
Pastor said large contractors often get awarded comprehensive federal contracts when there is a rush to get quick movement on a matter. Those contractors then can dole out subcontracts to specialty firms and subcontractors.

In his regular “DC Nation,”
column in the back of DC’s monthly DCU titles, DCU Executive Editor

Newsarama – TALKING TO GEORGE PEREZ @ MOTOR CITY COMIC CON 06
Check out the full interview at the link below..
by Vaneta RogersThe last time we talked to George Perez at Pittsburgh Comic-Con in April, he indicated a strong desire to do a Legion of Superheroes comic — so strong that fans have been clamoring for news about the project.
Perez, who is in the midst of an exclusive contract with DC Comics that will keep him working with the company through 2010, was recently seen as penciler on an issue of JSA and a portion of the seven-issue Infinite Crisis miniseries. Next for the artist is the beginning of his 12-issue commitment to the new (yet long delayed) Brave and the Bold ongoing written by Mark Waid.
Newsarama caught up with Perez at this past weekend’s Motor City Con to find out the latest news on his Legion hopes, the Games graphic novel, and what he’s doing for Justice League of America #0.

It has been suggested that we were marginally insane when I attempted the casualty lists that Newsarama ran during the midst of Infinite Crisis. To that I say, “You want crazy!?! We got crazy, baby!” To that end, we are attempting to take a broad swipe at the various revamps, retcons and revealed deaths that happened as a result of the final two issues of Infinite Crisis and the subsequent One Year Later issues.
Readers Note: This does NOT pretend to be exhaustive, nor even overly serious. This will not account for information that hasn’t been revealed yet. And again, note that this is Part 1. There will be more parts. We can even make this a bit interactive; if you have a favorite character that you believe that we missed, let us know and we’ll see what we can do. And we will not be accounting for casualties that were already covered in the two earlier pieces. That would indeed be crazy.
Oh, and of course Spoiler Warnings for…well, about everyone.
And now, let’s start with . . .

At this weekend’s Motor City Comic Con, fans and vendors were abuzz about a police raid on Friday targeting the sale of illegal recordings.
Monday morning, Michigan State Police Detective Sgt. Joseph White confirmed that private detectives working with the Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America entered the Rock Financial Showplace on Friday working under the suspicion that illegal sales of copyrighted recordings were being made. Upon finding allegedly illegal materials for sale, they then contacted state police.
White said this is not an uncommon occurrence at trade shows — not just comic book conventions, but a wide variety of shows where items are being sold. “A lot of these trade shows have people selling fraudulent materials,” the detective said. “With the availability of the equipment to make these products, there are a lot of people trying to defraud the industry and make a quick buck off of it.”
