The Movie Blog: Alien vs. Predator 2 Director Buzz
The first one was OK, good meaningless escapist movie. Not sure that it warrants a sequel…
Post sumbitedby: Joel You can submit your own post
here
From the good folks at IGN:
Out scooper points out that the Wikipedia entry for special
effects artists-turned-directors Greg and Colin Strause, a.k.a. the Brothers
Strause, claims that the siblings “have recently been mentioned as the possible
feature film directors for Alien vs. Predator 2. The sequel to 2004′s Alien vs.
Predator is set to be released in August 2007.”
While there’s a
first time for everyone I think an actual director might be a better choise than
two ex. special effects guys (no offence). I still can’t get over how true the
tagline for AvP was. “Whoever wins… We lose.”

The Movie Blog: Superman Returns a “Chick Flick”
Dear GOD, please don’t make this be true…
Superman Returns is approaching,
and I’m thrilled! Yes, I’ve even loved all the trailers. Bryan Singer knows how
to bring more to a Super-Hero movie than just explosions and “Wham-PoW” action
sequences… he actually brings a story along with him.
My Co-host on the Audio Edition, Doug Nagy,
has been pretty hesitant (and sometimes down right dismissive) about the new
Superman flick because it looks like it might focus too much on Lois and
Superman’s relationship. I’ve never been worried about that. That is until
now!
Vikas was kind enough to send me this information… that has me
worried. Here’s what Vikas sent me:
I was listening to the podcast on my way to work reading the
London Metro (www.metro.co.uk) and saw this article. Had to share this with you.“Director Bryan Singer…said:”This is a movie about what happens when old
boyfriends come back into your life. I call it my first chick flick….Even if
you’re the strongest man in the world, if the woman you loave has found someone
else who she’s nearly married to and who’s not a bad guy, what is your place in
that woman’s life?”“Screenwriter Michael Dougherty said a big reason behind the romantic plot
was the success of TV shows like The New Adventures of Superman and
Smallville.”
Oh my sweet goodness… this could be bad.
Superman a CHICK FLICK!?!?! Ok, now I’m all for having real story, and even the
Lois and Superman relationship explored a little in the film… but for Singer
to outright call it a “Chick Flick” now officially has me worried… a lot.
Let’s not rush to too many assumptions just yet though. Bryan Singer (The
Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, X-Men 1 and 2) has EARNED the benefit of the doubt. I
choose to trust him until opening day. But even I have to admit my confidence
has been shaken a little.

The Movie Blog: Hellboy 2 Still A Go
I really liked the first Hellboy, I hope this makes it to the screen.
A fewweeks ago it was announced that Sony had dropped Hellboy 2 from its line up. A
lot of fans of the film feared that meant there would be no Hellboy 2. I always
said there would be, because there is money to be made. Looks like I was
right.
In a recent interview director Guillermo Del Toro said as far as
he’s concerned things for Hellboy 2 are still moving along, and the Sony thing
is just a small bump:
“We’re moving studios right now,” says Del Toro. “They don’t have
a deal with Sony any more and we are looking for financing for HELLBOY 2. It’s
at Paramount right now. It’s bigger in scale, but not necessarily in budget. Abe
Sapien has a much bigger part, and we’re keeping closer to the mythology of the
comics.“ Del Toro giggled with glee as he revealed a singer whose music would be
part of the film. “There is a song by Barry Manilow, and you’ll have to find out
about how that fits in. I know you are all saying ‘what the f**k is that?!’“
-IFMAGAZINE
TO me this is great to hear. The first Hellboy was a thoroughly
enjoyable film, and I’m dying to see that character on the screen again.

Craig Cerino at myITforum.com : Bush backs federal marriage amendment
Well said Craig, I have been wanting to write the same thing for months.
Freedom is supposed to be for everyone
Craig Cerino at myITforum.com : Bush backs federal marriage amendment
Craig Cerino at myITforum.com
Bush backs federal marriage amendment
WASHINGTON – President Bush
on Saturday backed a resolution to amend the Constitution to define
marriage as a union between a man and a woman even though the idea has
little chance of being passed in the Senate. Story HERE
I just don’t understand what the big deal is (to those opposed to marriage being between other than a man and a woman).
I
have friends that are bible beaters, friends that are somewhat
religious, and friends that are complete Atheists. I have friends that
are straight and friends that are gay. If I did not want any of them in my life – I would not call them friends.
The
fact that they are friends of mine means only one thing, in regards to
their lives. Whatever they want to do that makes them happy, as long as
they are not hurting anyone else in the process, is fine with me.
I
look at same sex marriage the same way. If you’re a woman and want to
marry another woman or a man and want to marry another man – I could
care less – as long as you don’t hurt anyone in the process (which, I’m
not sure how you could hurt someone in this process ) – have at it.
Some
states now allow same-sex partners/life mates/lovers to be on the
others’ health insurance, they allow the same folks to be named as
benefactors in an end of life contract (said WILL), financial
institutions will grant loans/mortgages etc – - – why not marriage?
What
is the big deal, really? How does two women or two men getting married
effect your life (if you are among those opposed)? How exactly is this
in “violation” of the “sanctity of marriage”?
People
get divorced every day – people get married 3, 4, 5 times in their
lives. Here, you have a group of people FIGHTING to actually GET
married. Why try to keep them from being able to do that? Because it’s
against some “law” in some book (said The Bible) or some archaic belief system?
Does
anyone remember one of the core reasons why people got on those boats
hundreds of years ago seeking out the “new land”? If you don’t let me
refresh your memory – it was to flee from religious persecution. Does
anyone (in the group of those opposed to same sex marriage) remember
that as citizens of this country we have a Freedom of Religion? Does
anyone (in the group of those opposed) realize that there is (well,
supposed to be) a Separation of Church and State in this country?
This
is not some country in the Middle-East where our government and some
(any) religion are intertwined. Where our “moral-code” is engraved in
the laws and customs of the land.
This
is The United States of America. Leave these friggin people alone. Let
them get married if they want to get married. They’re not bothering
anyone when they do it. Get over yourselves and your self-importance.

Blacklist Status
Bad
news: Looks like both our main mail IP and our new-ish IP that we’re
using to test blacklist solutions were listed in Spamcop this morning.
We’re looking into it!Good news: The Comcast/GoDaddy blocks, we believe, were due to them
simply not liking the hostname of one of our IPs. They would bounce
messages back saying either “residential IP” or “dynamic IP”, both of
which were clearly false. We had this *same exact* problem with another
IP back in February, and simply renaming the IP fixed it with both
providers. We did this yesterday and it has definitely propagated
today. I don’t see any new Comcast problems in our queue currently. I
do see a couple secureserver.net bounces, but they also include a
message regarding Spamcop — so there’s the caveat to that.If you experience new incidences of either Comcast or GoDaddy
bouncing mail (and there’s a fair chance of this happening with
secureserver.net), please send those to support with the full bounce
error and a timestampped header. You only need to do this once!We are working on permanent resolutions for these blacklisting
problems. The best thing you can do to assist us in the meantime is to
NOT report spam you receive on external email accounts that your
Dreamhost domains forward to. Doing so may potentially ding Dreamhost
for the complaint, even if the mail did not originate on our servers.
If you’re hosting mail forwards for other people, tell them too!
Certain ISPs (such as AOL) scan every hop in the headers when screening
mail, and complaints count against every IP before it reaches them.
The Movie Blog: Why Ghost Rider Got Delayed
I am not holding up high hopes for this one, call it a gut feeling, and this news doesn’t help. I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt though.
As most of you know by now, Ghost Rider got a HUGE delay,
and pushed back to 2007 (Right now the release date is February 16th). We’ve
been speculating as to why this delay happened. Well, according to Cinescape,
Nicolas Cage gives us the
answers:
“They’re just tweaking certain things toward the end,” Cage said
in the interview. “The reason why the movie was delayed—I know that’s been on
people’s minds—is there were some effects that finally got authorized by the
studio that [writer-director] Mark [Steven Johnson] really wanted, and they’re
pretty big, and it took time to put them together and design them. So we had to
delay it. I think it’s good, because it’s something we really wanted to fight
for, with Ghost Rider going into battle with the
helicopter.”
Either way you looks at this, incompetence is
involved. Either the incompetence of the studio to fail giving the green light
on a shot until the last moment, or incompetence on the director’s part for not
having all of this well thought out and planned for in advance.
Still, there is something to be said for making sure they do it right and get
the movie they want out of it. But I do have one question….
BATTLE WITH THE HELICOPTER?!?!?!

The Movie Blog: Fantastic Four: The Next Chapter
Oh for crying out loud, what kind of title is that?? I didn’t think the first one was all that good, personally, I guess we will have to see how this turns out.
Oh wow. Perhaps the worst title in the history of sequels
has just come out. Fantastic Four 2 would have been good enough… but no…
they needed a trendy “tag title” like X-Men: The Last Stand had. And what is the
new title for the project? Fantastic Four: The Next
Chapter
The next chapter!?!?! Ummm… so what will Fantastic Four 3 be called? The
Next NEXT Chapter? So did a room full of suits sit around for 3 weeks in a
committee and come up with this nonsense?
However, one shouldn’t get too upset or discouraged by the mere title of a
movie. As Josh Tyler points out:
Does the title matter? Not really. Bad titles don’t necessarily
mean bad movies, though sometimes it’s indicative of the amount of creativity
being brought to bear on the film. Hopefully, this just means that the folks
making FF2 have all their creativity focused elsewhere and simply didn’t have
time to bother with a decent title. But if you’re going to do something that
lame, why not just call it Fantastic Four II or even just abbreviate the hell
out of it and call it F4:2, or something equally uncreative but at least not
mind numbingly lame?
I agree 100% with him. A bad title does not
necessarily equal a bad movie… but this much lack of creativity is at least
modestly a cause for concern. Your thoughts?
