DYNAMITE OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES FULL LONE RANGER TEAM, SHOWS ART
In a press release Dynamite Entertainment today officially announced the full art team of the September-debuting Lone Ranger ongoing series: Brett Matthews – writer, John Cassaday – cover artist, designer and series consultant; Sergio Cariello – artist, and colorist Dean White.
“John and I looked at a lot of artists for this project,” Matthews
said. “When we saw Sergio, and then Dean – we knew the search was over.
Sergio’s work is distinct and has a point of view that lines up with
where we’re taking The Lone Ranger, a character we all love and have a
great deal of respect for. Working with Sergio has been a pleasure.
He’s a real pro.”John Cassaday added in the release: “Sergio has a healthy blend of the
modern American comic influences mixed with a confident European brush
stroke. We felt it was important to find an artist who inked himself as
well as an artist who understood we wanted to see true West, notHollywood West. He’s working hard as hell on this book and it shows. Prepare to be impressed.”
Cassaday also had nothing but praise for his creative partner, writer
Brett Matthews: “Brett is a perfect choice on this book. He understands
what a Western needs in terms of the traditional as well as in terms of
the reality that the sophisticated audience of today calls for. These
are going to be real characters, not grainy cliches on TV.”The opportunity to work on the Lone Ranger, in a “year one/origin”
opening arc has proven to be just what Cariello has been looking for:
“I love westerns: the guns, the cowboy gear, the horses, the landscape
and the Indians. The Lone Ranger is an iconic hero of the Western
World.”As far as working from Matthews script, again, the artist has found a
perfect collaboration: “I already could envision how I’d tell the
story, graphically, after reading Brett’s script: So fitting to the
western I know. The pacing, the straight forward storytelling, non-
dialog heavy and just the right amount of panels. ““As for John Cassaday as cover artist: How can you go wrong with a guys
who’s been nominated — and won — best artist in the comic book
community twice? His work is powerful. His initial sketch of the Lone
Ranger was really appealing to me. John has a good sense of spotting
blacks, texture and attention to details necessary to make an image
stand out.”“Sergio and Dean were the final pieces and we now have our fully-formed
world,” commented Dynamite Spokesperson J. Allen. “Brett has written
incredible scripts, Sergio’s turning in incredible pages, Dean’s
coloring them and doing a fantastic job as he’s done in such Marvel
titles as Black Panther and Cassaday has wrapped it up all nice and
neat with a series of incredible covers. This will be THE most talked
about comic of 2006, believe it.”The series is planned to launch in September and follow monthly
thereafter. Look for more art and information on the Lone Ranger in the
weeks to come.

The Movie Blog: Ebert Does NOT Like Superman (and why I could care less)
You know, this does doesn’t bother me at all. You know why? Because I can’t stand Ebert.
In fact I HATE all movie critics. I see a review like this on a movie that I want to see, it makes me want to see it even MORE. There is a reason I feel that way, and I will tell you why.
When I was college, I worked as an assistant manager at a little two screen movie theater very close to the campus. It was a great deal for me even though the pay was crap. I would get out of class and I would have several hours before I had to open the theater during the week, so I could sit and eat lunch and do homework at my desk until it was time to open up.
The best thing about it was on Thursday night before a new show would open up the next day, I got to put whatever movie we had together so we could show it (basically tape the movie reels together and roll them up on a plater connected to the projector, long story). After closing I would get paid to watch the movie to make sure it was put together right (i.e. make sure the splices were in frame, no scratches on the film, etc..) On top of that, one of the other benefits was I could watch movies at any theater in town for free. Which I did a lot. As you can imagine, I got to watch a lot of movies, good and bad.
Now I was always a fan of movies when I was a kid, I watched lots of them with my Dad on the weekends (whether he was awake or not). After several years working at the movie theater, I realized that movies are not just entertainment, they are an art form. There is no substitute for watching a movie on the big screen. That is how it is meant to be seen. Even a totally crappy movie is that much better if watched on the big screen.
What I am trying to say is that those stuck up, self important movie critics don’t really have any more qualifications to judge a movie than you and I do. What they spew is just their OPINION, and nothing else. If there is a movie out there you want to see, GO SEE IT!! If critics give the movie a bad review, GO SEE IT ANYWAY!!! Don’t let someone else tell you what you should and shouldn’t see, you could miss the opportunity to see a really good movie that you really liked on the format that it was intended. Don’t miss that chance, more than likely you will only get it once.
In other words, I don’t give a damn what anyone says, I will be in line to see Superman Returns the first chance I get. If you have no interest in seeing it, then that is your CHOICE, don’t let others make it for you!!

http://www.themovieblog.com/archives/2006/06/ebert_does_not_like_superman.html
It’s no secret that Superman Returns has been my
single most anticipated film since Revenge of the Sith. I think it’s going to be
amazing, and in my mind (so far) Bryan Singer can do no wrong (a bit fan boyish
of me I admit… but there you go).
Just about every major critic has been going crazy with love for Superman
Returns. However… don’t start shinning up that Oscar just yet. Roger
Ebert just put out his review of Superman Returns, and it’s not quite as
pretty:
This is a glum, lackluster movie in which even the big effects
sequences seem dutiful instead of exhilarating. The newsroom of the Daily
Planet, filled with eccentricity and life in the earlier movies, now seems
populated by corporate drones. Jimmy Olsen, the copy boy, such a brash kid,
seems tamed and clueless. Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has lost her dash and
pizzazz, and her fiance, Richard White (James Marsden), regards her like a deer
caught in the headlights. Even the editor, Perry White (Frank Langella), comes
across less like a curmudgeon, more like an efficient
manager.
Ouch ouch Ouch!
So what does this mean? I’m going to see Superman Returns in about 9 hours.
My expectation levels just droped a couple of points. I actually respect Ebert a
lot. However… do keep in mind that this is the same Ebert who just gave that
sack of shit movie, Fast And the Furious 3, a positive reviews. So take that as
you will.
Maybe Superman Returns will suck after all? Maybe it will rule? I’ll let you
know my thoughts after the show. Up Up and away mother F’ers
