Industry News, Scoop, Friday, July 14, 2006

Scoop is saddened to report that burlesque comic and Academy Award
winner Red Buttons has passed away after a long battle with vascular disease. He
was 87.
Born Aaron Chwatt in 1919, the red-headed mischievous comic appeared in
Broadway plays and musicals before landing his own television show, “The Red
Buttons Show,” in 1952. Five years later, his supporting role in the Marlon
Brando film, Sayonara, landed him an Oscar and Golden Globe.

During his career, which spanned seven decades, Red Buttons appeared in
more than 30 films.
