TRANSFORMERSAin’t It Cool News has an extreme close up of Bumblebee’s face, apparently snuck off of the Michael Bay-helmed set.
Meanwhile, IMDB has an video interview
(Windows Media required) with producers Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy,
where they chat about both the adaptation and their work on “Teen
Titans Go!”FANTASTIC FOUR
CBR caught the recent press conference
about the new animated series. Marvel’s Craig Kyle said, The look is
somewhat anime in its inspiration, but again this came from the guys in
France. What we found is — and you can see this in the model sheets –
the expressions of these characters are so awesome. There’s one sheet I
just love which is all the faces of Ben. They way they bring all this
great emotion to this big rocky character we just love. The look for
this series we think will appeal to all kinds of kids, but again we
want the older fans like me and Chris [Yost, who also took part in the
conference] to sit down and really enjoy this. We think this style has
great broad appeal.”
THE DARK KNIGHT
Director Christopher Nolan sat down with IESB
and talked about what he had planned for the next film. He said, “I
think what people responded to well about ‘Batman Begins’ is how
different it was from their expectations so I think we would be foolish
to not recognize that and to [try to replicate that now predictable
blueprint]. I think we’ll be doing something very different for the
sequel. I certainly wouldn’t have any interest in trying to repeat
experience or the formula we’ve made, because particularly being the
origin story, it’s a very unique thing, a very singular experience. My
interest would sort of be to move on from that and to do something
quite different.” He also quashed rumors of Hoffman as Penguin and
Phillipe as Harvey Dent. “No,” the director said, “not true.”SPIDER-MAN 3
A rep from Sony told Superhero Hype that the film had not been audience tested, and that reshoots were for different reasons altogether.
THE BATMAN
Comics Continuum
has the network description of the fourth season premiere, an episode
titled “A Matter Of Family.” The description reads: “When the circus
comes to Gotham, ruthless crime boss Tony Zucco demands protection
money from the Flying Graysons, a family of trapeze artists. They
refuse to pay and Zucco exacts revenge, leaving, Dick, the youngest
Grayson an orphan. Having experienced a similar tragedy himself, Batman
is driven to take down Zucco and in the process discovers an unexpected
bond with Dick.”Toon Zone
notes an interesting irony in this situation. “Mark Hamill, widely
known as The Joker from ‘Batman: The Animated Series,’ will voice the
role of Tony Zucco in the upcoming season of ‘The Batman.’ Zucco will
be responsible for the death of Dick Grayson’s parents; Grayson will,
of course, also grow up to become the famed Boy Wonder, Robin. Kevin
Conroy, voice of Batman in a host of animated DC programming, will play
the role of Dick Grayson’s father. Looks like the Joker will, somewhat,
finally get what he wants.”
SMALLVILLE
The aforementioned page
at Comics Continuum is also the first to report that “Pascale Hutton
will guest star as Raya in ‘Zod,’ the sixth-season opener of
Smallville, scheduled to air on The CW on Thursday, Sept. 28. She was
Susan Gallagher in the ‘Ageless’ episode during Season 4 … Look for
Clark and Raya to wear Middle East-inspired garb in the episode, which
will also introduce Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen, a love interest for
Chloe.”

SMALLVILLE, THE SPIRIT, HEROES, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: AUGUST 29TH COMIC REEL WRAP
by Hannibal Tabu, Staff Writer
Posted: August 29, 2006
SMALLVILLEThe team at Kryptonsite have two new episode titles on their spoiler page.
THE SPIRIT
There’s an article
at ICv2 where Denis Kitchen, who represents the Will Eisner estate,
talks about finding the project a home with the help of producer
Michael Uslan. “Michael Uslan at Batfilm, Inc. had acquired ‘The
Spirit’ from Will about 10 or 11 years ago, knocked on every door in
Hollywood and no studio was interested … Finally Odd Lot
Entertainment opens its office, he goes in and introduces himself to
Deborah Del Prete and says, ‘I’ve got the best comic book property
that’s never been made into a movie.’ And she put her hand up and said,
‘Stop, don’t tell me you’ve got ‘The Spirit.’ He said, ‘It was love at
first sight,’ and that’s how it happened.”
HEROES
Actor Greg Grunberg talks about some of the more practical uses for telepathy in a note at Sci Fi Wire.
“We’re about to shoot a scene today where I use my ability to satisfy
my wife, [Janice, played by Lisa Lackey,] which is going to be very
interesting,” Grunberg said. “That’s the scene we’re shooting at the
end of the day. And I’m like, ‘OK.’ My wife read it, and she was like,
‘What?!?’ I said, ‘Come on! If I knew everything that turned you on and
everything, it would be incredible!’ So that’s one thing that we’re
doing, and it’s going go be crazy. Let me tell you this: 95 percent of
the time, I don’t want to be inside my wife’s head. I just don’t want
to know what’s going on in there. But, yeah, 5 percent of the time,
sure.”
30 DAYS OF NIGHT
The fourth behind the scenes video clip has been posted at Ghost House Pictures’ site.
FULL METAL ALCHEMIST
Ain’t It Cool News has an early review of the upcoming DVD release.

TRANSFORMERS, GHOST RIDER, SUPERMAN RETURNS 2, LUKE CAGE: AUGUST 28TH COMIC REEL WRAP
by Hannibal Tabu, Staff Writer
Posted: August 28, 2006
TRANSFORMERSThere were a batch of set reports posted this weekend, including IGN’s FilmForce (describing a battle scene in Los Angeles and talking about Megatron voice casting) and Sci Fi Wire (which talks about Bay’s philosophical approach to making the film and discusses destroying Furbys).
SMALLVILLE
Fresh spoilers about this season’s sixth episode, get ‘em while they’re hot.
GHOST RIDER
The sixth video blog for the project has been posted at the official site, focusing on Blackheart, while actor Nicolas Cage talked to Now Playing magazine
about his passion for this project. “From an early age, I would always
imagine how exciting it would be to be able to transform myself into
one of those characters that scare the neighborhood bully away,’ Cage
tells Now Playing. ‘To be able to be in the Ghost Rider movie is like a
dream come true. I think it’s a lot fun. It’s a chance to blend the
horror genre, in the classic Wolf Man sense, with the comic-book genre.
So this way I’m doing two of my favorite things at once.’”
SUPERMAN RETURNS 2
The sequel’s half way made from a financing perspective, according to this article
at Variety (subscription required). Their story stated, “Like Warners,
Legendary insists it will turn a profit on ‘Superman Returns,’ and has
given all indications that it’s on deck to co-finance a sequel. Like
Legendary, all the funds argue that they won’t be made, or broken, by
just one pic. By investing in a slate of pics over the course of
several years, they’re virtually guaranteed a return of 10%.”
LUKE CAGE
From his work on the “Transformers” set, actor Tyrese Gibson told Sci Fi Wire
of his interest in the project. “They’re doing a rewrite on the film,”
Gipson said. “And [director] John Singleton’s got me at the top of his
list. I’m not full-on committed to the project, but it’s something that
I’m extremely interested in. Met up with [producer] Neal Moritz a few
times about it. Met up with [executive producer and former Marvel
chief] Avi Arad a few times about it. And, you know, we’ll see what
happens. It’s not my movie, for the record. It’s something that
[they're] really interested in me being a part of. I’m interested in
being a part of it. And I think, you know, we’ll be able to determine
if John Singleton, if me, or whoever else is going to be on the
project, we’re waiting on the product. You know what I mean? We …
can’t do a movie without a good bible. What we going to read?”
THE DARK KNIGHT
Is the production heading back to the Cardington hangars? The UK’s Times & Citizen
wonders. “The Times & Citizen understands Warner Brothers has
renewed its lease on the shed for a further 12 months, and could now be
in residence until December next year. Intriguingly, signs of activity
at the shed in recent days, and glimpses of cables and a lighting
gantry through the massive opened doors, have prompted speculation the
hangar is being freshly rigged for another film shoot. Top of the rumor
list is the sequel to ‘Batman Begins,’ the title of which was unveiled
by Warner Brothers last month as ‘The Dark Knight.’”
FANTASTIC FOUR
Reed Richards gets animated? You can check out a bevy of images from the series at Comics Continuum.

WONDER WOMANCreator Joss Whedon left a note on his message board
that the studio has the script. “The Brothers Warner HAVE read Wondy
Gal,” Whedon wrote, “and are arranging a meeting to tell me that it is
a perfect crystalline gem and I must not change a word, nay, not a
syllable. I’m certain that’s how it will go.”
300
CBR’s own Mark Cronan has a very early review of the upcoming Frank Miller adaptation, but Comingsoon.net notes that the film is no longer scheduled for a March 16, 2007 release and has been slated as “to be announced.”
FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER
The first set photos
(brace yourself — they’re not very exciting) are already leaking out,
and you can see them at the following five links: one, two, three, four, five.
Meanwhile, BlackFilm notes that Andre Braugher will be playing a “military general” in the sequel, not Puppet Master as some rumors claimed.
PLASTIC MAN
Well, there used to be a snippet of the proposed Eel O’Brien pilot at Ain’t It Cool News, but now all you can see is a screen grab. Aww …
TRANSFORMERS
Apparently, many
Transformers fans are none too pleased with what they’re seeing from
the Michael Bay production, and (in addition to posting new character
mockups) they’re voicing it — faithful reader Thom Pratt sent us this link
to the front page of Seibertron.com, which shows the many incarnations
of Megatron in comparison to a set of images for the new movie.SPIDER-MAN 3
According to the blog
of producer Grant Curtis, get ready for more this year. “In regard to
the next time you will get a glimpse of the movie, please know that we
will have a trailer coming out this fall.”
THE BATMAN
Oh, YouTube — how did we make it without you? The viral video site has the footage shown at San Diego, while over at the Legions of Gotham message boards several posters were kind enough to share screen captures of varying resolutions.
THE DARK KNIGHT
Keeping it in Gotham City for a moment, Batman-On-Film is reporting that actor Sean Penn was the first choice for the Clown Prince of Crime, but passed.
LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES
The kids from the thirty first century now have a mini-site on the Kids WB page, where you can glimpse … INTO THE FUTURE!

THE DARK KNIGHT
There’s an interview with director Christopher Nolan at Better Than Fudge
where the director talks about taking the Joker back to basics. “I
would certainly point to ‘The Killing Joke’ but I also would point very
much to the first two appearances of the Joker in the comic,” Nolan
said. “If you look at where the Joker comes from thereÕs a very clear
direction that fits what weÕre doing very well.”
Actor Christian Bale gets the treatment over at Empire Online
where he said, “We have the confidence now of knowing that how we saw
the world of Gotham was one that other people embraced and liked, so we
can be even bolder in knowing that. Beyond that I don’t have a clue
because I totally trust Chris [Nolan], he lets me know what I need to
know about, and beyond that I know nothing!”
TRANSFORMERS
Access Hollywood has behind the scenes video from the Michael Bay-helmed adaptation.
FANTASTIC FOUR: THE RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER
According to Variety
(subscription required), actor Andre Braugher gave up a stint on the TV
show “ER” to take a role in the ensemble sequel. “Braugher, an NBC
veteran from his days on ‘Homicide: Life on the Street,’ was supposed
to play a patient who enters the hospital with a seemingly innocent
cough but suffers a stroke while waiting to be treated. He’ll be
heading to the bigscreen instead, co-starring in the Fox sequel
‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,’ which is in
pre-production.”
While we’re in the Baxter Building, we may as well check out the animated goings on as well. Comics Continuum
has the 411 on the voice cast for the show, noting that Brian Dobson is
the voice of The Thing and brother Paul is providing the voices of both
Doctor Doom and Mole Man in the series, which launches Saturday, Sept.
2. Other main voices in Fantastic Four include Hiro Kanagawa as Mr.
Fantastic, Lara Gilchrist as the Invisible Woman, Christopher Jacot as
the Human Torch. H.E.R.B.I.E. will be in the new series, voiced by Sam
Vincent. Other voices in the show include Laura Drummond as Courtney
Bonner-Davis, Sunita Prasad as Alicia Masters and Alvin Sanders as
Phillip Masters (a.k.a. Puppetmaster).
HEROES
According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Brick” star Nora Zehetner is joining the cast of the new NBC series, playing a hip, Bohemian struggling actress in New York.
SMALLVILLE
Chloe herself, actress Allison Mack, was interviewed by TVGuide.com
in the first of two installments centering on her character. “I’ve been
playing Chloe for six years now,” Mack said, “so she’s sort of second
nature to me, for sure. ['Smallville' creators] Al [Gough] and Miles
[Millar] and the writing staff are incredibly open to my ideas about
the development of the character and how she can grow, things like
that, so it’s a team effort in building her. We all collaborate at the
beginning of each season, and then work on her growth as the show goes
on.”
BLADE
The Detroit News Comics Blog
features a story about the Daywalker’s Motor City connection. “We just
thought it would be cool to have Blade be from Detroit,” said
writer/consulting producer Geoff Johns. “And because Blade is such a
kick-ass character.”
HELLBOY ANIMATED
Now Playing Magazine
is looking ahead to the future of the BPRD in 2D. “Having worked in
this process, I want to fight it going to series every way I can,
because as a series of movies, it’s so much better,” said producer Tad
Stones. “Because the difference is, in a TV series the schedule is
king. And if something comes in and somebody did a good job, but it’s
not quite the way you wanted it doesn’t say the things it should about
the character it’s got to go through. In a TV series, I can’t
monopolize Mike’s time. So at most, we’d probably go over premises
together. Whereas in the movie, we co-wrote the story, we looked at
outlines, we looked at the script, we went to the recording sessions.”
SPIDER-MAN 3
Italian site Bad Taste
talked to boxer Baxter Humby about his role in the web-spinning sequel.
“The scene I did was a fight with the Sandman and I helped set up the
punch sequences,” Humby said. “The reason they needed me was,
Spider-man punches through the Sandman and they needed a shot with his
arm going through him. Everybody was very professional and I was
introduced as the World Champ and got instant respect because Dan
Bradley has been to see me fight and told the cast and crew about me.
Thomas was a perfectionist and needed the shots to be perfect, which
will show in the film. He was very nice.”
Meanwhile, Marvel’s Kevin Feige told MTV that after Spidey swings out, the next areas of interest are Steve Rogers and a Doctor Bruce Banner.

LOST SQUAD

SPIDER-MAN 3Actor James Franco told MTV
that he was heading back in front of the cameras. “The next thing I’m
shooting?” Franco said. “Re-shoots on ‘Spider-Man.’” Revealing that
director Sam Raimi has put out the call for “more action,” Franco said
he’s being called back to the set of the blockbuster. “Probably next
month,” he added.
TRANSFORMERS
What pictures were they talking about in the live interview? Faithful reader Mark Brooks knew, and he emailed us the link to get very early concept images of “Incinerator” (probably Blackout), Optimus Prime, Scorponok and Starscream.
Those self same images have caused some stir amongst the die-hard fan community, and reader Thom Pratt sent in this link
from the Allspark Forums, with a note from producer Don Murphy to the
early outrage. “You hate and you haven’t SEEN a damn thing yet,” Murphy
wrote. “Oh sure, Prime doesn’t look EXACTLY like he did in the cartoon.
The Autobots are only five. The Decepticons don’t have Soundwave. There
are complaints out the wazoo. Well you know what? I have complaints
too. There are things I wanted in this film which are not going to be
in there. But I know what some of you know — filmmaking is not a
democracy. Hell, Adam Goodman is in charge of production at Dreamworks.
He’s the guy who BOUGHT this film. He is working day and night to get
this ready for July 07. There are things I know he wishes were in the
film. But they aren’t. You’ve talked online here to Brian Goldner. He
owns the property but everything is not EXACTLY as he wishes. Tom
Desanto is the most devoted producer out there- I know there are things
he wishes were in there. You saw that Alex and Bob didn’t get
everything they wanted. And Michael Bay, who spends 16 hour days
shooting this mega-film? Michael Bay who sets up every shot himself and
oversees to the point of operating the camera at times? He’s made a
zillion compromises to get a great film he can be happy with. No,
filmmaking is a series of happy accidents … No one is trying to make
anything but a great film here. When I say you haven’t SEEN anything,
think about it. You’ve seen a toy mold. A truck still. A Bumblebee
model with a guy underneath it.”
