After almost twenty years, a thousand issues and over ninety million
copies sold, Comic Shop News announces they have added a weekly podcast
called CSNsider. CSN began in 1987, seven years before the
world-wide-web, and the publication has never been available online.
CSN is an eight-page newsletter that is sold in bundles to comic shops
that distribute it to their customers each week. The newsletter has a
current circulation of over 55,000 and is distributed by over six
hundred shops across North America and around the world.The weekly podcast is posted Sundays and ties into the issue of CSN
that will arrive in shops that Wednesday. The podcast is hosted by
co-editors Cliff Biggers and Ward Batty and include a discussion of the
contents of that issue as well as exclusive recommendations for the
books that will be in shops that week. “There’s no way we can know when
the issue goes to press exactly what will ship that day,” says Ward
Batty, “But by the time we record the podcast each week we know what is
coming in along with that issue and Cliff can discuss some of the more
interesting releases.”There’s no way to fit the entire contents of an issue of Comic Shop
News into the CSNsider podcast, it would take over an hour. Instead,
the editors discuss the cover story as well as a few of the issues
stories and for Cliff to add his weekly picks. The editors hope this
will fill a niche for a comics news podcast that should appeal to a
mass audience. Each episode ranges from 10 to 15 minutes and covers a
range of topics.
