The Green Hornet: Relative of the Lone Ranger?
Did you Know…?, Scoop, Friday, September 01, 2006
Over the course of his 60-year history, the Green Hornet has appeared in
many different types of entertainment medium, including radio, film series,
television and comics. Introduced January 31, 1936, on ABC radio, the series
followed the adventures of Britt Reid, a debonair newspaper published by day and
a masked crime-fighter by night. The Green Hornet battled criminal
alongside his Filipino sidekick, Kato and was a close relative of fellow radio
show character, the Lone Ranger. The character Dan Reid, who was the nephew of
the Lone Ranger and appeared frequently on that radio program, was also none
other that Britt’s father.Although the Green Hornet has been portrayed
in many comics series since 1940 (up until 1995), the character has lain dormant
for over a decade with many failed big-budget film options falling by the
wayside. With the return of the Lone Ranger from Dynamite Entertainment,
this could be the perfect time to resurrect the Hornet for an all new
generation of fans.
