GASP!!! Comic Book Reviews!!
I know this is hard to believe but I actually made time to write some comic reviews. I have been trying hard to jot my thoughts down right after I read each comic, so we will see how long it lasts.
This time I have reviews for Supergirl #11 and 52 #27-28,
Supergirl #11

Honestly, I don’t know why I still read this comic; other than not wanting to miss some Legion reference. I guess its like watching an accident, you just can’t take your eyes off of it because it is so horrible. I admit I am intrigued by the flashbacks that Supergirl is having about her past, but I think that is the only part of this series that I have found that has any redeeming quality or any thought behind it. Otherwise, in this issue especially, it is like watching Britney Spears with superpowers. I mean look at the way they draw Supergirl on the cover, it looks like recent pictures Britney you see on the news, barely any clothing. Add the dialogue between her and Captain Boomerang, just plain nasty and uncalled for. Sometimes I wonder if they should left Supergirl dead, it would be better than seeing this behavior.
52 #27-28

Overall this series has been damn good and a lot of fun to read. Up until now I have been following along fine, or at least I think I have up until now. I must have missed something as I am starting to get confused. I mean what is the deal with Dark Skeets and Waverider all of a sudden? I remember that deal with Booster Gold’s ancestor, but jeez! Maybe he downloaded IE 5017 Beta before he came back the past this time (little techie joke heh).
I really like the Question\Rene storyline. Looks pretty obvious now that Rene is being groomed to be a new Question, if the current one dies. Which makes sense, since that is about the only Charlton hero that they haven’t changed that much. Though the whole cancer from smoking is kind of cliche’, but still workable. I also find it pretty damn funny all the press the “Batwoman as a lesbian” thing got and that character has barely been seen in this series. I did enjoy seeing Batwoman doing some butt-whooping this time around.
I am not sure where they are going with Ralph Dinby, but they got my interest. Though they might be going a long way to get around to it.
I thought the Red Tornado thing was a little silly, but maybe it was just filler. The chanting of “52-52-52″ was hilarious, and I can’t wait to find out what all that means. Every time they do that it is like an actor on TV talking to the audience.
The “Lost in Space” storyline is really good, and one of my favorites. Who would have thought that I would start to like the Animal-Man character, but he fits real well. Hell I am starting to tolerate Lobo. Now their’s a shocker. I almost freaked out in to fanboy mode when I first saw the Emerald Eye of Ekron mentioned for the first time. My theory, which I am sure that I am not the only one, that the Eye was the missing eye of Alan Scott, but a nice twist on how it ended up. Once again great stuff.
