Scoop - Where the Magic of Collecting Comes Alive! - Where Are They Now?

Where Are They Now?

Start with a secret cave. Add a dash of lost map and treacherous traps.
Throw in a pirate’s hidden booty, a few nosy teenagers, and… Sloth. Mix
well and you have yourself a recipe for one of the most awesome movies
of the ‘80s;

The Goonies The leader of the crew was “Mikey,” played by Sean Astin. After
winning a Young Artist Award for this role, he went on to pursue many
other acting opportunities, including football classic Rudy. He also won many other awards and nominations, such as his biggest role yet, “Sam” in Lord of the Rings. Currently, Sean is filming The Colour of Magic and recording voice work for the up-coming animated movie, Cat Tale. Luckily, this child star failed to fade out as so many other child actors do.

“Chunk,” known in The Goonies gang as the lovable fat kid with a big heart, was played by Jeffrey Cohen. After The Goonies, Cohen tried to make it as a child actor but seemed to only find minor roles in after school specials and a couple of Family Ties
episodes. Not to be outdone by the wild world of show biz, Jeffrey
earned his law degree t UC Berkeley. He is now helping celebrities as
an entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles, California.

The Goonies was the very first role for actor Josh
Brolin, who played “Brad.” Since then, Brolin has been in numerous
roles on television and the silver screen. Most recently, he has played
a doctor in Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse (Planet Terror) and acts as a detective along side Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, and Cuba Gooding Jr. in the soon-to-be released movie, American Gangster.

Beginning his acting career as a small boy in a McDonalds commercial, Cory Feldman played the role of “Mouth” in The Goonies. A couple of years later, Cory played a part as one of the Frog brothers in the movie, The Lost Boys, which
is said to be his most memorable role. He became one of the most highly
paid teenage actors in the mid ‘80s, but the hype of Hollywood soon
caught up with the star. In the ‘90s, Feldman was unfortunately
arrested for drug possession. He has since bounced back, recently
finishing the movie, Lost Boys 2: The Tribe. The “sequel craze,” continues. He has also teamed up with long-time friend Cory Haim in the show, The Two Coreys, which takes a look at the Corey duo living together as adults.

What about Sloth, you ask? The lovable yet deformed Fratelli
brother, played by John Matuszak, has sadly since passed on. He acted
up until his death of heart failure and will always be immortalized on
the big screen wearing a Superman shirt and screaming, “Heyyyy, you
guuuuys!” while swinging into action on a rope tethered to the mast of
“One Eyed Willy’s” pirate ship.

Sad news also comes about The Goonies villain, “Mama Fratelli. After a battle with throat cancer, Anne Ramsey passed on just three years after The Goonies was filmed. She also died just three and a half months after receiving an Oscar nomination for Throw Mama from the Train. She was 59.

As for the rest of The Goonies gang: Kerri Green (“Andy”)
went to college at Vassar College and graduated cum laude with a
Bachelor of Fine Arts. She has appeared in two minor roles on
television since her graduation including ER and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. She still writes screenplays for Hollywood but is inactive in the public scene, preferring to spend time with her family.

Martha Plimpton (“Stef”) has appeared in many television shows, but for only one or two of the episodes, such as ER and Law and Order. In 2005, she played the role of “Darlene” in the off-Broadway revitalization of Hurlyburly.

Jonathan Ke Quan (“Data”) also went to college and graduated from
the University of Southern California School of Cinema Television. He
has appeared in minor roles since The Goonies in 1985. Before The Goonies, he played “Short Round” in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. He has since made it to #67 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Kid Stars and is now a martial artist and working as a stunt coordinator. He has recently worked with Jet Li on The One.
