This new take on the origin of the Lone Ranger is fresh, but it is not even remotely alien to the those of us who have loved the character (and Tonto, for that matter) for years. Writer Brett Matthews, artist Sergio Carello, colorist Dean White, and art director - cover artist John Cassaday have to be saluted for this powerful version of one of the most popular characters ever.

Comic Collector Live Finds A "Prime" Partner In Top Cow Productions
Comic Collector Live, The Internet’s fastest growing comic book collecting web site is excited to announce the addition of Top Cow Productions as a partner in 2008
    Added: 12/20/2007 - Dave Macy

Hendersonville, TN, Dec, 20, 2007–It’s a wonderful Christmas present but you can’t gift wrap it or put it under the tree. The Internet’s fastest growing comic book collecting web site is excited to announce the addition of Top Cow Productions as a partner in 2008 — Merry Christmas!"

Top Cow’s Filip Sablik (VP of Marketing and Sales) says , ""We’re excited to be working with Comic Collector Live in the coming year. CCL is providing an excellent and fresh way for collectors and comic enthusiasts to keep track of their collections and interact with others who share their passion. Top Cow is happy to be a part of the growing community at CCL."

When Comic Collector Live launched its buying and selling system less than six months ago the expectations for growth were reasonable. But the results have gone far beyond what CEO Joe Butler ever thought. "We will have over 50 thousand members in CCL before this New Year’s Eve and a wish list of almost One million comic books," says Butler. "We just added some major retailers to our stores who have pledged to add almost a half million issues for sale to our web site— and now with the addition of Top Cow we hope to grow to where we become the standard for the comic book industry.

Comic Collector Live was developed by Butler because of his love for the comic book niche as well as his desire to give collectors a first class software at no cost with more features and a complete comic book database built from ’scratch’. "It’s been a labor of love," says Butler, "and to see the response to our efforts has been very rewarding. We are now looking to move CCL into an even larger presence in the marketplace with the addition of some very special partners like Top Cow Productions, CGC, AAM-Markosia (UK), Big City Comics, Moonstone Publishing, and ComicsPro.

Comic Collector Live is also on the verge of announcing partnerships with some major names in the industry. Event Coordinator and Lead Researcher Steve Boyd has been working on a project that will benefit the Hero Initiative and one of its ‘legends’ by producing a very special comic book variant in early 2008. "I can’t reveal the artist just yet," says Boyd, "but he is well known for his work on Transformers, Ghost Rider, Defenders and others. Let’s just say it will be a major story of 2008 for comic book enthusiasts." CCL’s first variant, Lone Ranger #10 with cover art by John Cassaday, was produced with Dynamite Entertainment.

Comic Collector Live’s upcoming conventions are WonderCon (San Francisco) in February, MegaCon (Orlando) in March, and the NY Comic Con in April.

AP - PETER JACKSON TO EXECUTIVE PRODUCE TWO HOBBIT MOVIES - NEWSARAMA

Posted by Chris Mosby on 20th December 2007

AP - PETER JACKSON TO EXECUTIVE PRODUCE TWO HOBBIT MOVIES

    JAKE COYLE

    AP Entertainment Writer

NEW YORK (AP) After publicly feuding for more than a year, “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached agreement to make J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” a planned two-film prequel to the blockbuster trilogy.

Jackson, who directed “Rings,” will serve as executive producer for two “Hobbit” pictures. They will tell the story of how the young hobbit Bilbo Baggins originally came to possess the nefarious One Ring that Frodo, his adopted heir, needed three films to dispose of.

A director for the films has yet to be named. Production is tentatively set to begin in 2009 with a release planned for 2010, and the sequel following in 2011.

Relations between Jackson and New Line soured after “Rings” despite a collective worldwide box office gross of nearly $3 billion (euro2.08 billion). Jackson shepherded Tolkien’s Middle-Earth saga to a combined 17 Academy Awards including best picture for 2003’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” The trilogy also includes 2002’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” and 2001’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.”

“I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line,” Jackson said in a statement. “We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth.”

Late last year, acrimony between the 46-year-old Jackson and New Line became very public, with the studio announcing they would move forward with “The Hobbit” without him. Jackson sued New Line over the amount he was paid _ including DVD payments _ for “The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first installment of the trilogy.

“The low point was when we both started getting a little too personal about this whole thing,” said New Line co-chairman and co-CEO Bob Shaye on Tuesday. “From my own perspective, I realized that I shouldn’t be so thin-skinned about everything that goes on in my professional life.”

Jackson’s suit, the two sides announced Tuesday, has been settled. The terms of the settlement were not announced, though Shaye cheerfully said: “One of the key terms was we all shake hands with each other.”

In his statement, Jackson thanked Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) Chairman and CEO Harry Sloan for helping him and New Line “find the common ground necessary to continue that journey.”

New Line, which is owned by Time Warner Inc., holds the rights to produce “The Hobbit,” while MGM, which is owned by a consortium including Sony Corp. and Comcast Corp., has the right to distribute it. The two studios will split financing and distribution costs, with New Line handling distribution in North America and MGM distributing internationally.

Two “Hobbit” films are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, similar to how the three “Lord of the Rings” films were made all at once. Shaye and Sloan both said it was Jackson’s idea to divide the story, adapted from Tolkien’s first book about Middle Earth (which was about half the length of any from the trilogy that followed).

The film’s production schedule is subject to how long the writers strike lasts, which some forecast could continue for many months. There is not currently a script for either “Hobbit” film, and producers will be unable to even approach writers until the strike is over.

“If the writers strike drags on, then everything can change in terms of the time table,” Sloan said Tuesday.

Sloan added that some patience has been necessary for making “The Hobbit” happen: “We’ve always taken the position that we wanted Peter to be involved in this project, but it’s taken some time to work out the differences.”

Jackson, who directed “King Kong” after finishing the trilogy, is currently finishing shooting for “The Lovely Bones,” based on Alice Sebold’s novel.

The three “Lord of the Rings” films rank among the 25 most lucrative films of all time, made more financially successful by the risky strategy of shooting all three together. The production budget for the trilogy has been estimated at around $300 million (euro208.1 million).

Help Make History on the 5th Anniversary of the War
Iraq Occupation 5th Anniversary U.S. Mobilization Committee (Member Groups Listed Below)

Join us on Saturday, March 15th for a massive demonstration in Washington, D.C., at which we will exercise our rights to assemble and speak on behalf of the majority of Americans, the majority of Iraqis, the majority of U.S. troops, and the majority of people around the world who all say: U.S. Out of Iraq! This gathering will support the Iraq Veterans Against The War Winter Soldier Testimonial.

We call on people from throughout the United States, in solidarity with those planning similar events around the world, to come together in massive numbers on March 15th and 19th, 2008, to demand an immediate end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

The events we create will mark the end of the fifth year and the start of the sixth year of this criminal, unprovoked invasion and occupation. Over a million Iraqis have been killed, and tens of thousands of U.S. service members have been killed or wounded. The occupation must end, and together we can end it!

Join us on Wednesday, March 19th, the anniversary of the invasion, for massive civil disobedience in Washington, D.C., and at the local level all around the United States. On this day, members of Congress will be in their districts. We will provide you with the resources you need to engage in effective nonviolent actions at locations of your choosing, including congressional district offices. On the same day the permanent military-industrial complex will be at work in Washington, and we intend to bring to bear on it the most massive, most creative, and most disciplined nonviolent resistance it has ever seen. Training sessions will be provided from the 15th to 18th. Toward these ends we have formed a short-term committee.
