I should be writing reviews…

but instead I’m waiting around to see how much trouble I am in for doing my job at work.

Don’t get me wrong, I am glad I have a job.? However, when you get in trouble for doing your job so well it makes others look bad, it kind of takes the fun out of it.

Look for more news and reviews when the shitstorm blows over.

The word for today is: meh

‘TRIBUTE: MICHAEL JACKSON, KING OF POP COMIC BOOK OFFERS LASTING REMEMBRANCE FOR FANS FROM BLUEWATER

To millions he was the King of Pop; one of the world’s most cherished entertainers and a celebrated international icon. With his untimely passing, Michael Jackson left an extraordinary and tragic legacy. Bluewater Productions is paying tribute in October to his memory and legacy with a special collectors edition biography comic.

The newest addition to the publisher’s critically acclaimed biography library will trace Jackson’s rise as a musical prodigy with the “Jackson 5” through last Thursdays sad end. The book will feature highlights from his storied career and cover his enigmatic private life.

“Michael Jackson’s music served as the soundtrack to countless lives…including mine,” said Bluewater president Darren G. Davis, “His influence on our culture has been profound.”

“TRIBUTE: Michael Jackson, King of Pop,” features a wraparound cover and foreword by “The Official Michael Jackson Fan Club’s” Giuseppe Mazzola. Mazzola was also Jackson’s personal friend.? The issue is being written by Wey-Yuih Loh, (Political Power: Colin Powell” and “Political Power: Joe Biden) and illustrated by Giovanni Timpano (Vincent Price Presents). Noted cover artist Vinnie Tartamella will also provide an alternate wraparound cover.

“This is a celebration of his life and what he meant to a legion of fans,” Davis said. “Although the book won’t shy away from some of his personal troubles, we try to tell a balanced story that shows Jackson as a musical genius, an unparalleled superstar and as a complex person.”

Davis noted that he initially waffled at producing a tribute comic, but after receiving dozens of emails and phone calls he knew it was the proper way to show respect and give fans a lasting remembrance.

In recent months, Bluewater has become one of the leading producers of biography comics. Launched earlier this year, Bluewater’s “Female Force” has featured influential women such as Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Princess Diana, Sarah Palin and Oprah Winfrey. A follow-up series, “Political Power” launching in July is set to turn the spotlight on politicians like Colin Powell, Barack Obama, and Al Gore.

Bluewater’s biography titles have drawn considerable media attention, including features on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and “Live with Regis and Kelly.” It has also been featured in such periodicals as People Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today and thousands of blogs and other media outlets.

To find a comic book store near you, go to the comic shop locator, www.comicshoplocator.com. “Female Force” books are also available on Amazon.com, where they have been ranked among the site’s top 300 books.

High-resolution images and interview opportunities are available upon request.

What’s in my next DCBS shipment? – 6/24/09

First I would like to plug Discount Comic Book Service, they have to be the A #1 comic mail order service that I have ever dealt with.? They certainly have the best customer service of any online retailer I have ever dealt with hands down.? They also have the best prices I have ever seen on a consistent basis, and unbelievable specials that can’t be beat by anyone else.

With that out of the way, here is what I have shipping out today, which usually show up on the Friday after.? DCBS ships fast!

DESTROYER #3 (OF 5) – Yeah that’s right a Marvel Comic.? Its written by Robert Kirkman, so that is why I ordered it.? Its a great series, and I am really enjoying it.? Especially after I learned more about the character, being Stan Lee’s first character and all.

STAR TREK WRATH OF KHAN #2 – KHAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!? Need I say more?

BATMAN STREETS OF GOTHAM #1 – I am still not sure about this comic, from what I have heard I probably won’t stick with this one, but the first issue was on special for real cheep so I will give it a try at least.

OUTSIDERS #19 – Peter Tomasi has been kicking ass on this title.? I love the concept and the characters on this book and look forward to reading it every month.

ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #12 – Greg Rucka has been doing pretty good with these characters and I have been enjoying the stories for the most part.? I am looking forward to this issue since its going into the origin of this version of Nightwing and Flamebird.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #600 – Yeah I know, another Marvel comic, and I also fell for the miscalculated renumbering sales scheme.? I was curious, so sue me.

SGT ROCK THE LOST BATTALION #6 – I really have been enjoying this series, and I have been sharing it with my Dad, he has liked it too.? He is a history buff so its right up his alley.

ZORRO #14 – Have been enjoying this comic, and sharing it with my Dad as well.? Though I have to admit its to get a “old hat” lately and not much really new for the character.

INVINCIBLE #63 – Consistently one of the best comics I read right now, Robert Kirkman really knows how to write comics that grab you and suck you in!

PROJECT SUPERPOWERS CHAPTER TWO #0 Except for the fact that this was cheap, I am not really sure why I bought this one.? Chapter One was interesting, but with today’s market and my need to cut down on what I buy, i doubt I will continue past this.

NEXUS AS IT HAPPENED TP VOL 01 I always wondered about this character, so I thought i would give this a try.? I didn’t catch that this was in black and white though, so I am kinda pissed I bought it, I don’t really care for b&w reprints.

SUPERMAN #689 – I never thought I would see Mon-El in Superman like this.? I am not too keen on how he is being written, but it does make sense on how they are portraying Daxamites the last few years.? I am still enjoying the story in any case.

SUPERGIRL #42 – I am so glad that they changed the direction of this character to what it is now, Supergirl is finally worthy of wearing the S.? I have been enjoying this story as well and how it plays with the other Superman stories.? Though I question the numbering now, it hasn’t really seemed to matter from what I have been reading.

GREEN LANTERN #42 – Geoff Johns is kicking some major ass on this comic! I look forward to reading this and the GL Corp every month and the more build up to Blackest Night I read, the more I think its actually going to be really good.? With Johns behind the wheel, I am confident it will be.

DETECTIVE COMICS #854 – Looking forward to reading more Greg Rucka in this comic.? He seems to be ideal to write these kind of stories and I am really interested to see what he does here with Batwoman.? The Question back up stories (I’ll call them what the hell I want, im paying for it!) should be great, I have really liked what he has done with this character so far.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #34 – No offense to Len Wein, but this title just went to the crapper thanks to editorial manhandling.? I am pretty sure this is my last issue, if not one more.? Just been ordering it out of habit.

JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #28 – I already miss Geoff Johns on this book, his run was awesome.? Jerry Ordway really knows these characters, so I am willing to give him a chance.? So far I have liked what I have seen.

FARSCAPE DARGOS LAMENT #3 – I am a HUGE Farscape fan and I have really enjoyed what Boom has put out so far, but I am going to trades after this series.? The price of the single issues are just too expensive compared to the price of a trade.? I can even seeing my self selling/giving away my singles of what I have so far and getting the trades to replace them.? I want to support Farscape, but I don’t want to go broke doing it.

Well that is just about it, except the latest Previews in the box of course.? See you next time!

Want a job? Hand over your Facebook password – SciTechBlog – CNN.com Blogs

Want a job? Hand over your Facebook password
Posted: 06:11 PM ET

How would you like to apply for a job and have your prospective employer ask for the usernames and passwords for all your social-networking accounts?

That’s what’s happened to applicants for jobs with the city of Bozeman, Montana, who were surprised to discover they needed more than a work history and references.

“Please list any and all, current personal or business websites, web pages or memberships on any Internet-based chat rooms, social clubs or forums, to include, but not limited to: Facebook, Google, Yahoo, YouTube.com, MySpace, etc.,” reads a background-check waiver form that applicants had to sign. (There’s no mention of Twitter.) The form then contains three lines where applicants are to list their logins and passwords.

The request raised questions about privacy rights in Montana, whose constitution states: “The right of individual privacy is essential to the well-being of a free society and shall not be infringed without the showing of a compelling state interest.”

Is discovering a job applicant’s cheeky status updates or stupid YouTube videos a “compelling interest” for the city of Bozeman?

Chuck Winn, Bozeman’s assistant city manager, thinks so.

“Before we offer people employment in a public trust position, we have a responsibility to do a thorough background check,” Winn told CNET on Thursday. “Shame on us if there was information out there available about a person who applied for a job who was a child molester or had some sort of information out there on the Internet that kind of showed those propensities and we didn’t look for it, we didn’t ask, and we hired that person,” Winn said. “In many ways we would have let the public down.”

Hmm. Maybe I’m out of touch here, but do people really list their pedophiliac tendencies on Facebook?

According to CNET, Bozeman city offices have been flooded with angry calls and e-mails since this news broke earlier this week. In an unscientific online poll by a Montana TV station, 98 percent of respondents opposed the city’s request on privacy grounds.

The furor led city officials to reconsider. After a closed-door meeting Friday, Bozeman officials suspended the practice, according to several Montana media outlets — who first announced the news on Twitter.

Filed under: On a personal note..

Looks like my earlier post got some attention from Comcast. ? I actually got a call at work (they must have googled my number)? from them offering help on the situation.? I had just checked one of my servers at home and it was now up and accessible.

I wasn’t sure about the cable, so the comcast lady gave me her direct line in case its not up later.

That was very odd, but at least i have Internet again.

I may go insane…

I can’t really work on posting at work, since I am really busy for a change.? ? So I just might have to write things down in a notebook or something till our house reetners the 21st century.? grrrrrrrrrr

Overdue Review – London Horror Comic #1 and 2

June 22, 2009 by Chris Mosby · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Comic Book Reviews

This is my last overdue review. I really hated that these reviews sat on my “desk” so long, I am hoping that my effort to finish them means something.

Anyway, here we go again.

CVR1_1London Horror Comic #1

Written by: John-Paul Kamath

Penciled by: Lee Ferguson

Inks by: Marc Deering

Letters & Book Design: by Matty Ryan

Colours by: Hi-Fi Design

Price: $3.99

Suggested for Mature Readers

I will start out by saying that I am not a big fan of horror comics, in fact,? I usually don’t even give them a second glance when I see them on the shelf.? This comic actually surprised me, the stories were good? and well thought out (though the last one I didn’t quite get).? A few of them had a funny side to them that was refreshing and I like how others tied back into comic book culture.? The art was good, thought maybe not my taste, but still well done.? Overall I really liked this issue and was glad that I gave it a shot.

CVR2_2London Horror Comic #2

Written by: John-Paul Kamath

Penciled by: Lee Ferguson

Inks by: Marc Deering

Letters & Book Design: by Matty Ryan

Colours by: Hi-Fi Design

Price: $3.99

Suggested for Mature Readers

First, I have to say that the cover on #2 was just a little disturbing.? Having that naked chic in the tub with that guy with the eyes all over him just made my brain all confused ;-) .? This issue surprised me too, the stories had just enough of a twist to make them interesting.? Once again the art was good, just not my style, which is just my opinion.? I know I can’t do any better, and I have certainly seen a lot worse in my time.? The one thing I didn’t like was the last story.? I didn’t find it very “horrifying” just damn cruel.

Overall, if you like the horror genre, then you will more than likely like these books.

When I went to the author’s website I discovered that he got hit by Diamond’s cut backs on minimum orders, so #3 would be the last issue of this series.? With that in mind, you will only be able to get #3 on his online store.? This series was different enough that I just might give that last issue a try when it comes out.

39 reasons why I am glad I stopped reading Marvel….

I was checking out Rich Johnston’s new blog, Bleeding Cool, and read an article he wrote about how many titles that Marvel put out this week:

This Wednesday, Marvel will ship 39 serialised comic books.

Twelve X-titles – Astonishing X-Men #30, Timestorm 2009/2099 X-Men #1, Uncanny X-Men #512, Wolverine First Class #16, Wolverine Noir #3, Wolverine Weapon X #3, X-Factor #45, X-Force #16, X-Men Forever #2, Dark Wolverine #75, Wolverine Magazine #3 and Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Utopia #1. And five are Wolverine specific.

That last title adds up to five Avengers books, including Avengers/Invaders #12, Avengers: The Initiative #25,? Dark Avengers #6 and New Avengers #54.

Adding to those three Dark Reign books are another nine, Dark Reign: Elektra #1, Dark Reign: Zodiac #1, Dark Reign Lethal Legion #1, Dark Reign Sinister Spider-Man #1, Dark Reign The Hood #2, Amazing Spider-Man #598, Ms. Marvel #40, Secret Warriors #5 and Thunderbolts #133, making twelve.

And then we have Daredevil #119, Fantastic Four Giant-Size Adventures One-Shot, Guardians of the Galaxy #15, Immortal Iron Fist #27, Incredible Hercules #130, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #52, Nova #26, Riftwar #1, Runaways #11, Skaar: Son of Hulk #12, Squadron Supreme #12, Terror Inc. – Apocalypse Soon #3, Thor #602 and Ythaq No Escape #3.

To all Marvel zombies out there… that’s a lot of comics. Especially when amongst those are fourteen additional variant covers. Plus eleven trades or hardcover collections.

Holy shit man!!? I guess Marvel is using the shotgun method now, “lets publish a shitload of comics, hopefully a few of them will sell well!”
