I just got my ComicBase 12 CD in the mail for my birthday and I was having trouble installing it on my Vista laptop.
Everything would go fine until I hit next to start the install right before (I would find out) is the accept the license agreement screen. The install would just error out and close. I looked in the Application Log and found this:
Log Name: Application
Source: MsiInstaller
Date: 1/11/2008 6:28:41 PM
Event ID: 1033
Task Category: None
Level: Information
Keywords: Classic
User: HANFORDMAN\Chris
Computer: HanfordMan
Description:
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: ComicBase 12. Product Version: 12.0.3. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603.
After doing some research, I found that this is a common thing with Vista and has happened with other products.
With out getting to techinical, you can fix things by running this command at a command line:
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\vbscript.dll
After you do that, everything works fine.

SWEET!
Move aside, Lego Star Wars: Lego Batman details surface
By Frank Caron
| Published: November 13, 2007 - 10:22PM CT

The ever-popular juxtaposition of Star Wars and Lego that is the Lego Star Wars franchise has become one of the best-selling casual games in recent memory. With the announcement of Lego Batman, the newest entry in the Lego franchise, TT Games and Warner Bros. are hoping to repeat past success with a new face and if the newly-disclosed details of the title are any indication, they seem to be on track.
Lego Batman allows players to “explore a richly interactive
LEGO Gotham City as Batman and Robin, capturing infamous villains—and
even take control of the villains themselves.” A huge cast of
unlockable characters even more diverse than their Star Wars
counterparts will be available. The game will always feature a variety
of Batman’s different gadgets and some of the fan-favourite vehicles.
And of course, co-op play will be available.
Samantha Ryan, Warner Bros. Interactive senior vice president,
expressed her confidence in the continued success of the franchise:
“Working with TT Games, we are confident they will continue their Lego
games’ success with this title, and we will expand our publishing
endeavors with the introduction of the Lego Batman franchise.”
Lego Batman will be hitting every current-generation console and PCs in 2008.

Hi folks,
Wow! Just two months after Atomic Avenue’s launch, Atomic Avenue now has more than twice as many comics as all of eBay’s auctions…combined! In fact, we’re rapidly closing in on the Quarter Million Comic mark, with thousands of new comics added each day. Thanks, everyone—it’s been a heckuva launch!
News and Things
- Send in that Feedback! Had a good experience with a seller on the system? A bad one? Let folks know by rating your purchases under your My Account page. Just click on the orders in question, and rate the order at the bottom of the page. Our sellers rely on your ratings to rise in rank on the system, and your feedback helps make Atomic Avenue a better place for everyone!
- New “Contact Seller” Feature! Want to ask a seller a question before buying? Want to request a scan of an expensive comic before taking the plunge? Now when you click on a seller’s icon next to a listing, you can send them mail directly.
- New Cool Tools and Wallpapers on the Community Page! Check out our new and ever-growing Community page for the latest discussions, tools, and desktop wallpapers. New entries include a public version of the ComicBase Cover Gallery screensaver (now Vista-savvy), as well as robotic 300 wallpaper from our own Mark Castaneda. Check back regularly, and feel free to submit your own tools and creations!
- Spread the word! Let your friends know about Atomic Avenue (and the new ComicBase Free if they’re not yet ComicBase users). And if you’ve got a blog, or post regularly to a newsgroup, please give us a mention (in the immortal words of Boris Badenov: “We could use the publicity!”).
All the best,
-Pete

Here is the scoop from Peter Bickford.
Hi everyone,
A little earlier tonight, we just pushed out what may be the most important update in ComicBase history.
If you’re running ComicBase 10 or 11 and use your “Check for Updates” command, you’ll see that there’s a new version of the program available. It’s got a fairly humble name, (either “ComicBase 10.1” or “ComicBase 11.1” depending on your version of ComicBase), but what it does is nothing short of incredible.
Thanks to ComicBase’s new “Sell” command, and a brand new web site we’re launching today, known as Atomic Avenue, every ComicBase user now has the ability to instantly create his or her own online store. With just a couple of clicks you can now post any number of comics for sale—even thousands of comics at once— at the prices you’ve specified, to a vast marketplace accessible by millions of people. There are no listing fees, and you only pay a small commission when an item is sold.
In addition, whether you’re a ComicBase customer or not, Atomic Avenue offers you the chance to finally locate those hard-to-find issues you’ve been searching for. Whether it’s that elusive copy of 52 #1, Crisis on Infinite Earths #9, or even The A-Team #1 you’ll be able to find what you’ve been looking for from one of the world’s largest collections of comics (with thousands added every day!). Best of all, you can just order your comics and have them arrive a few days later. There’s none of drama and uncertainty so often found with online auction sites.
Atomic Avenue lets you get the comics you want, at the prices you want, without any hassle.
To read more about Atomic Avenue, check out our full introduction to the system—or just head on over to www.atomicavenue.com and have a look around. We’ll also be demonstrating Atomic Avenue live all weekend long at Wondercon in San Francisco’s Moscone Center.
We think Atomic Avenue is going to revolutionize the way comics are bought and sold, and we’re proud to invite you to be the first to see it in action.
All the best,
-Pete
