DABEL BROTHERS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE DRESDEN FILES, BUTCHER TO WRITE MINISERIES - NEWSARAMA

DABEL BROTHERS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE DRESDEN FILES, BUTCHER TO WRITE MINISERIES

Early last month, we told you about author Jim Butcher’s announcement that his Dresden Files novels would be adapted into comic book form by the Dabel Brothers. Today, the company confirmed the news, adding that Butcher himself will write one of the upcoming miniseries.

The novel series, which was adapted for television and saw life as a
short-lived series on Sci Fi, follows Harry Blackstone Copperfield
Dresden, an investigator of the supernatural. A wizard himself, Dresden
aids the Chicago police in their investigations of cases that stretch
past their reach and into the supernatural. Dresden is no angel either,
as he is constantly watched by the White Council due to a misadventure
in his past which resulted in the death of his uncle.

The comic versions of the Dresden Files (Butcher has
written nine novels, with a tenth due in February of 2008) will be
direct adaptations of the novels, and will begin with Storm Front in mid 2008. Prior to the debut of Storm Front, Dabel Brothers will release in April, an original four-part Harry Dresden miniseries written by Butcher.

“I couldn’t be happier to see the Dresden Files
hopping the gulf to a new medium–and to one where I think they’ll have
the chance to really shine,” Butcher said. “I’ve spent considerable
portions of my life obsessed with comics. I like them, and they helped
shape my imagination as I was growing up. The action in the Dresden Files
has always been inspired by my favorite superhero titles–Spidey and
the X-men–and several facets of Dresden himself were modeled on some
of the same foundations as Peter Parker. For heaven’s sake, my online
handle has been ‘Longshot,’ after the sometime X-man, since my very
    first email account.”

Adaptations of Butcher’s Dresden Files will join at least two other Dabel Brothers’ adaptations in 2008 - Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein: Prodigal Son, and George R. R. Martin’s Wild Cards. The titles will be published in conjunction with Del Rey Books, an imprint of Ballantine Books.

    INVINCIBLE #42 FOR $1.99 - NEWSARAMA

Posted by Chris Mosby on 9th March 2007

Pick this up, you won’t be dissappointed!  One of my favorite comic books, and I look forward to reading it every month.

    INVINCIBLE #42 FOR $1.99 - NEWSARAMA

    INVINCIBLE #42 FOR $1.99

    Press Release

This March, Image Comics is offering readers who still
haven’t discovered INVINCIBLE a chance to try the series out for only
$1.99. Featuring the start of a brand-new story arc and a complete
recap of the series so far, INVINCIBLE #42 is the best jumping on point
    since issue #1.

Written by Robert Kirkman and featuring art by Ryan Ottley and colorist
Bill Crabtree, INVINCIBLE #42 starts fresh after the devastating events
of the Mars storyline concluding in issue #41.

“Mark has just saved the world, and it’s not the first time, but
everyone saw it happen,” said Kirkman. “We’re going to really start
exploring Invincible’s standing with the public starting with issue
#42. Things are going to be a bit different from now on, and it’s an
excellent time for anyone who’s been on the fence to finally take the
plunge and find out what INVINCIBLE is all about.”

Since its debut, INVINCIBLE has received widespread critical acclaim,
with everyone from ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY to WIZARD to G4 TV’s ATTACK OF
THE SHOW and Comedy Central’s COMEDIANS OF COMEDY singing the title’s
praise. In 2004, Paramount Pictures optioned INVINCIBLE for a feature
film, with Kirkman himself attached to write the screenplay.

“INVINCIBLE continues to be one of our most popular titles,” stated
Image Executive Director Eric Stephenson. “Sales continue to climb on
both the single issues and the collections, but we still hear about
people who haven’t given it a chance. INVINCIBLE #42 is an excellent
    jumping-on point for those folks.”

INVINCIBLE #42, a 24-page comic book in the Image Slimline format
priced at $1.99, is available for order now (FEB071908) in the February
issue of Previews and will go on sale April 25.

The Scoop - Off the Presses: JSA: Ghost Stories (Vol. 12)

This was a great story arc, I highly recommend it! This is available at Amazon.com

    JSA: Ghost Stories (Vol. 12)

Off the Presses, Scoop, Friday, January 05, 2007

DC Comics; $14.99 Although DC President & Publisher Paul Levitz
is better known by many for his present job, there are still plenty of fans
around who remember him first and foremost as a comic book writer, one who had a
cool stint on the 1970s revival of All-Star Comics and a highly respected
run on Legion of Super-Heroes. For the first time in way too long, 2006
saw Levitz put the writer’s hat back on to tackle a six-issue arc of JSA, the
last of the that particular series featuring the world’s first superhero team.
The result was a wild, entertaining ride through the origin of the Gentleman
Ghost and visitations with the team’s past. A must for JSA fans!

Review: Detective Comics #817 (One Year Later)

Posted by Chris Mosby on 23rd March 2006

OK, first impression on this one is good.  If you are a Batman fan, but haven’t read any of the comics in a while, this might be a good time to give it a chance again.   This came out in the first of March, so you might be able to still find one at your local comic shop since it wasn’t one of the “OYL” titles that sold out.  Spoiler full details on the flipside…

    Hooked on “Invincible”

Posted by Chris Mosby on 3rd December 2005

I have a confession to make. I have been reading non-DC comics. Yes, yes I know it is hard to believe.

I just can’t help it, I was hooked pretty much from page 1. That is right, like a lot of others, I am completely hooked on Invincible from Image Comics.

    Invincible #1

Looking for something new to read, I picked up an the first Invincible trade just on a whim, and because I had heard good things about the title and the writer. I figured that if I didn’t like it, I could always sell it on Ebay or something.

I had no idea what I was getting into. I was completely hooked almost instantly. Robert Kirkman is a genius on this book. He expertly captures the superhero genre in a way the reminds me of the comics I used to read when I was a kid, but he is still fresh enough to make it different from everything else. There is just enough quirky humor to make the book fun, but at the same time it is just serious enough to keep you on your toes. There is plenty of action, but maybe a little too much gore (in some of the later issues) for the little ones. I would consider it PG-13 at the least.

You don’t have to take my word for it though, you can take a look at the entire first issue on the Image Comics Online Comics section.

I will wait while you read it.

No go on, I am serious, read it and you won’t be disappointed.

Back? So what did you think? Yeah it is awesome isn’t it. :)

OK, now that you are hooked like me; you are probably wondering “how can I get more of this book”??

Well don’t worry, in pure shameless capitalist fashion, I have you covered. Here are some links for the trades. I just finished Vol. 5, which gets you up to issue 24. 25 on up you can probably still find in your local comic shop, or you can just wait until Vol. 6 comes out in January.

    Product links to Amazon.com
Invincible: The Ultimate Collection, Vol. 1 (Hardcover) (covers #1-13, which is the about the first three trades, if you are planning on getting this book, it will save you about $10)

Invincible Vol. 1: Family Matters (Paperback)

Invincible Vol. 2: Eight is Enough (Paperback) (Don’t do the “search inside” feature unless you want to spoil some major plot developments)

Invincible Vol. 3: Perfect Strangers (Paperback)

Invincible Vol. 4: Head of the Class (Paperback)

Invincible Vol. 5: The Fact Of Life (Paperback)

Invincible Vol. 6: A Different World (Paperback)

OK, so there you go. I have turned this post into a big advertisment. So sue me. I assure you that I wouldn’t do so if I absolutely LOVE what I was linking to. You have my word on that. ;-)

If you would like to know more about the Robert Kirkman, he has a weekly column on Comic Book Resources called Buy My Books (see its not just me!!)
