Year5.org — March on the 5th Anniversary of the War

Posted by Chris Mosby on 20th December 2007

Help Make History on the 5th Anniversary of the War
Iraq Occupation 5th Anniversary U.S. Mobilization Committee (Member Groups Listed Below)

Join us on Saturday, March 15th for a massive demonstration in Washington, D.C., at which we will exercise our rights to assemble and speak on behalf of the majority of Americans, the majority of Iraqis, the majority of U.S. troops, and the majority of people around the world who all say: U.S. Out of Iraq! This gathering will support the Iraq Veterans Against The War Winter Soldier Testimonial.

We call on people from throughout the United States, in solidarity with those planning similar events around the world, to come together in massive numbers on March 15th and 19th, 2008, to demand an immediate end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

The events we create will mark the end of the fifth year and the start of the sixth year of this criminal, unprovoked invasion and occupation. Over a million Iraqis have been killed, and tens of thousands of U.S. service members have been killed or wounded. The occupation must end, and together we can end it!

Join us on Wednesday, March 19th, the anniversary of the invasion, for massive civil disobedience in Washington, D.C., and at the local level all around the United States. On this day, members of Congress will be in their districts. We will provide you with the resources you need to engage in effective nonviolent actions at locations of your choosing, including congressional district offices. On the same day the permanent military-industrial complex will be at work in Washington, and we intend to bring to bear on it the most massive, most creative, and most disciplined nonviolent resistance it has ever seen. Training sessions will be provided from the 15th to 18th. Toward these ends we have formed a short-term committee.

    MoveOn.org - Hold lawbreakers Accountable

Posted by Chris Mosby on 23rd October 2007

OK I am breaking a rule of mine, but this is important and we as Americans need to stand up for our rights.

For years the Bush administration has been illegally wiretapping Americans’ phone calls with the willing assistance of major telecom companies like Verizon and AT&T. Now the White House is putting enormous pressure on Congress to give phone companies retroactive immunity for all the laws they broke spying on innocent Americans.

Here’s why: The pending lawsuits against these companies may be the only way we ever find out how far the Bush administration went in breaking the law. President Bush wants immunity for them to cover his own actions.

The problem is, some key Democrats are poised to help him do it. We need to speak out loudly against this move. I just signed a petition urging Congress to reject immunity for lawbreaking phone companies. Can you join me?

    I couldn’t agree more…

    Mark nailed it didn’t he?

    news from me - ARCHIVES

    Time Off

Any day now, George W. Bush will set the record for having taken more days of vacation than any other Oval Office Occupant in history.

Back in the Reagan era when that guy was setting the old record, I
wrote an article I can no longer find for a local magazine. It said
basically that Presidential Vacations were just plain a bad idea from
all standpoints. I mean, if you think you have a great guy in office,
you oughta be ticked off that he isn’t working harder. Fewer days off
might mean he could pass a couple more items on your agenda. He’s going
to end his term without doing a number of things you hoped he would
accomplish. Maybe less vacation would have made one or two more come
    about.

On the other hand, if you think the current prez is inept, maybe
working harder would make him a bit more ept. Or if you think he’s
dishonest, putting in more hours might mean fewer instances where he
hides behind the claim that he didn’t know what his aides were doing,
hadn’t addressed some vital problem yet, etc. Bad presidents tend to
cower a lot behind the excuse that they’re busy tending to more
important matters…and then they go fishing.

This isn’t a slam at Bush so much as it is a bewilderment that
anyone in any career of choice needs that many days off. I always liked
Jay Leno’s old line about how if you keep needing vacations from your
job, you picked the wrong job.

PeterDavid.net: Trying to be sensitive to the Bush Administration

Posted by Chris Mosby on 29th November 2006

OK, I am not going to try to hide it anymore, Mr. David just hits the nail on the head every time.  Welcome to the new Politics category.

PeterDavid.net: Trying to be sensitive to the Bush Administration

Trying to be sensitive to the Bush Administration

Imagine the chagrin of the Bush Administration that that darned
uncontrollable liberal media has gone and started calling the civil war
in Iraq a civil war. Hilarious was Tony Snow’s attempting to define
exactly what a civil war was and, in doing so, described exactly what
was happening in Iraq…only to try and backpedal moments later and
explain why, no, no, that’s not it at all.

Ostensibly the administration is concerned that referring to it as a
Civil War could further voter discontent and objection to the war. It’s
hard to believe that discontent could be more profound than approval
ratings in the 30s and an election that turned the government back over
to the Democrats, so clearly the major worry is that the GOP candidate
for president in 2008 is going to suffer from his predecessor’s actions
having launched a civil war in another country.

Indeed, the only thing we’re waiting for now is assassination of the
current Iraqi leaders and a military overthrow of the current Iraqi
government, which seems to be on the very close horizon. Indeed, the
*only* thing that may be preventing that is the presence of our troops,
and I suspect even that isn’t going to hold matters in check forever.

In any event, with the current battering the Bush Administration is
taking, this blog will try to display some sensitivity. We here will
NOT be referring to the Iraqi situation as Civil War. Instead we will
refer to the overall situation as the CW, and events that transpire
there as CW Programming. That sonds a lot friendlier.
