Asylum Press signs deal with SCB Distributors for Book Trade Distribution
June 24, 2010 (Los Angeles) Frank Forte, publisher of Asylum Press, has inked a deal with SCB Distributors for distribution into the booktrade. SCB Distributors is a full-service distributor to the booktrade who services the U.S. Canada and the U.K.
“We are thrilled to be working with SCB Distributors to bring our books to an entirely new audience outside the comic book store world,” explains Frank Forte, “the graphic novel industry is exploding and we’ve got some great new titles coming out in the next few years.”
” We’re very excited to have Asylum Press’ graphic novels to our catalog,” says SCB president Aaron Silverman, ” we look to help distribute Asylum’s titles into the booktrade, to Canada, digitally and beyond.”
Asylum Press titles available to bookstores are Robert S. Rhine’s Satan’s 3-Ring Circus Of Hell, Deadly Are The Naked, Chestaclese Sketchbook and The Bomb by Steve Mannion.
Shipping this Sept for the Halloween season will be Zombie Terrors (ISBN13: 978-1-61724-001-0 ), a 152 page anthology of stories based on the undead. It features writers and artist from all over the world.
Also shipping this Sept is EEEK! (ISBN13: 978-1-61724-010-2) A retro-style horror anthology by Australian writer/artist Jason Paulos.
The above titles will be available from SCB Distributors immediately.
SCB Distributors titles are available through Ingram and Baker & Taylor.
Coming in 2011 will be the collected edition trade paperbacks of Warlash:Dark Noir, Farmhouse, an original graphic novel by Elizabeth J. Musgrave and Szymon Kudranski, and The Asylum Of Horrors collected edition hardcover.
Also shipping spring 2011 is Black Powder, by writer/artist Dwayne Harris. Black Powder is a buckskin pirate adventure that takes place on the rugged Mississippi River during the New Madrid earthquake of 1812.

“COMIC BOOK LITERACY” PREMIERES AT CHICAGO’S C2E2
Documentary feature film showcases the utilization of comic books to promote literacy and education
CHICAGO, IL – The independent documentary feature film “Comic Book Literacy” will make its world premiere at C2E2 – The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. The film will screen on Sunday April 18th at 1:45. After the screening there will be a Q&A with the film’s director Todd Kent.
“Comic Book Literacy” emphasizes the positive attributes of a misunderstood medium. The film features appearances by comic book writers and artists such as Paul Dini, Scott McCloud, Terry Moore, Joe Quesada, Jim Salicrup, Gail Simone and Art Spigeleman as well as historians and scholars who discuss the role comics play in education in both an historical and contemporary context.
“Many, many people we spoke with attributed their love of reading to comic books,” Kent said, “And we are thrilled to be able to share that excitement and spread the good word about comics.”
Kent added, “C2E2 is a great fit for the film and we’re honored to be a part of it.” Topics in the film include visual literacy, vocabulary and even science and history, the learning of which can be enhanced with the help of comics.
There are plans to screen the film at film festivals and comic book conventions throughout the year with the goal of obtaining a wide release distribution.
“We also hope to spread the word about what a great educational resource comics are,” said Kent, “All teachers should have some comics in their utility belt.”
